About NoLight

Last updated Oct 19, 2026

NoLight is an iPhone camera built for the sessions that run long in a dark room — a lecture, a concert, a rehearsal, a two-hour meeting. It keeps recording while the screen goes dark, so the phone doesn’t light up the room around you, and it is built so that the recording survives: written in five-second pieces, with storage and heat checked as it goes.

The guides on this site answer the questions people ask before and around a long recording — why a recording stops, what iOS does and doesn’t allow, how much space an hour takes — whether or not you use NoLight.

Who makes it

NoLight and these guides are made by Sang Cao, at Sang Cao Labs, who designs, builds and supports the app. Every support email is answered by the person who wrote the code.
